by Steve | Mar 25, 2019 | Destinations, Feature The Midwest, Food and Drink, The Midwest, USA, Where we've been

Sitting in the blind you’re amazed at the noise coming from the river. The cranes get louder and more frenzied, reaching a crescendo you simply weren’t expecting. Suddenly, tens of thousands of huge birds take to the air, wings flapping, the squeaking even...

Our day started at @kindercoffeelab in @visitstclo Our day started at @kindercoffeelab in @visitstcloud. This new local coffee shop has indoor seating as well as a drive through window.

The coffee has a unique flavor unlike most chain coffee shops. Kinder Coffee Lab beans are roasted locally and the service is one-of-a-kind.

Super sweet folks serve the coffee in what their website calls a “judgment-free” zone. We love that! ❤️

If you go, be sure to pick up a custom sticker (I got one that said, “Give me coffee or give me death.” And it was just $1.

I’ve been blessed all my life to have such a won I’ve been blessed all my life to have such a wonderful mentor who has been there for me every step of the way. My dad, @johnteget, helped me learn how to ride a bike and supported me at school events.

As an adult, he’s given me sound advice on whether to purchase a house and which job offer to accept.

He welcomed my wife and a new granddaughter with love and open arms.

My dad has done all he could to make sure I had the very best life possible. Most importantly, he has shown what it means to love his family unconditionally.

Happy Father's Day, dad! I hope you have the relaxing, joy-filled day you deserve.

Love, Steve
Took this photo on an early morning walk today. Took this photo on an early morning walk today.

It’s that time of year in Nebraska where the weather is unpredictable. It’s sunny then cloudy. Dry then wet. Completely calm and then the hail storm.

The weather here is like life - often unpredictable with lots of ups and downs. As native midwesterners, we learned from a young age that through it all, God is in control. He basks in glory on our bright and cheery days and He holds us in His hands through the storms.

Through it all.

Have a blessed Sunday, knowing you are loved by God and by us.
Do you prefer a sweet or savory salad? Earlier t Do you prefer a sweet or savory salad?

Earlier this week, we had grilled chicken salads for supper. Steve prefers a more savory salad, while I like my summer salads on the sweet side.

After spending a long day away from home, these were both quick and easy salads to throw together, thanks to a little pre-planning the day before.

Knowing that we wouldn’t have much time for meal prep, we grilled some extra chicken breasts the night before when we had other stuff already on the grill.

Then, all we had to do was take the pre-grilled and chopped chicken out the fridge and assemble our salads. (We also had all of the topping pre-cut.) Here’s what each salad included:

Ann’s sweet salad:

🍓mixed spring greens
🍓grilled chicken
🍓 sliced strawberries
🍓 blueberries
🍓 chopped red onion
🍓 dried fruit and nut mix
🍓 feta
🍓 lite raspberry vinaigrette dressing

Steve’s savory salad:

🥗 mixed spring greens
🥗 grilled chicken
🥗 sliced cucumbers
🥗 diced bell peppers
🥗 red onion
🥗 grated carrots
🥗 bacon bits
🥗 shredded parmesan cheese
🥗 lite ranch and fat-free Dorothy Lynch dressings

What are your favorite summer salads?

We have the absolutely BEST guests at our Airbnb c We have the absolutely BEST guests at our Airbnb called @postcardplce in Pawhuska.

This is Adrian. He and three women from South Dakota visited Pawhuska earlier this week to eat at The Pioneer Woman Mercantile, shop, relax, and just enjoy some time away with one another!

They snagged a room at the PW Boarding House their first night in town and then checked in at Postcard Place for their second night. They had the best time checking things off our “70 things to do in Pawhuska list” and lounging on the covered front porch at Postcard Place after a day of sight seeing. Jessie said in her review that they “will definitely stay again.”

Five-star reviews like the one Jessie wrote are fantastic! But what really made our day was the thoughtful and detailed note that Adrian left in our guest book. He summed it all up when he said, “Others should get their ass (oops) here or you will miss the time of your life.”

We couldn’t agree with you more, Adrian. And we sincerely hope YOU will be back!

Book your stay at our Airbnb in Pawhuska at the link in our bio @postcardplce.

It’s officially grilling season at our house! 🫑🧅🥩

This quick and easy meal on the grill included pork chops and a bunch of fresh veggies. Here’s how you can make it:

🔅 Season your chops with salt and pepper.

🔅 Cut fresh veggies into bite sized pieces and place them in a large bowl.

🔅 For this meal we used one bell pepper, one large onion, a handful of asparagus spears, six mushrooms, half a zucchini, and one small potato that we steamed for 2 minutes in the microwave first.

🔅 Spray the veggies with a very small amount of EVOO spray and add your favorite seasoning. I used a Kusina Gold Greek seasoning mix for this meal.

🔅 Mix the veggies, oil and seasoning until everything is evenly coated and spread out on a grill pan.

🔅 Start the pork chops on the grill on high for about one minute then lower the temperature to medium.

🔅 Grill the veggies on medium heat until they begin to blacken, stirring occasionally.

🔅Flip the pork chops every three minutes or so and grill until cooked through (8-12 minutes depending on thickness).

That’s it! Quick, easy, and delicious! And because we had so many healthy veggies on our plates, this meal really filled us up without adding a lot of calories.

Give this healthy grill meal a try and let us know what you think.
We have always tried to use this platform spread j We have always tried to use this platform spread joy and inspire others. We like to wake up and say, “good morning” to you.

But it is not a good morning.

It is a dark, cold, sad morning in America.

Innocent children brutally murdered.

Teachers dead.

Lives changed forever — the latest in a long string of senseless, violent attacks.

The trauma.

We can’t even.

But we can.

We can do better.

We can be kind.

We can advocate.

We can show grace.

We can know our neighbors.

We can vote.

We can meet in the middle.

We can look for similarities instead of differences.

We can show compassion.

We can ask for help.

We can lift each other up.

We can seek out the lost.

We can share joy.

We can inspire others.

We can still pray.

And we must do it all. We know we can. 🖤
