For us, this is a day to remember all the people and experiences for which we are thankful. When we started our travel blog, Postcard Jar, back in 2014, we could not have imagined the joy this space would bring us and the people to whom it would introduce us. We are thankful today, more than ever, for people like you who read our blog, chat with us on social media, and have truly become our friend. Whether we've met in person or not, we are grateful for you and cherish our connection. This year, we're spending Thanksgiving in Rochester, Minn., with our daughter, Meghan, and Ann's brother and his family. We've ordered fully prepared Thanksgiving meals from two local restaurants (@bleuduckkitchen and @canadianhonkercatering ) and are planning on a relaxing day here. That small waterway in the middle of the photo is where cruise ships enter and exit Port Everglades. We will be sailing from there in just 48 days aboard the beautiful Celebrity Reflection and we’d love to have you join us! We've been on eight cruises since starting our healthy living journey in early 2019, and have not gained weight on any of them. Cruise lines actually offer an abundance of healthy, low-calorie options, and reasonable portion sizes. Typically, they also have excellent fitness center facilities, complimentary exercise classes, and ample opportunities for movement. 🚢 Dispelling cruise myths #1: “I'll be bored. 🚢 Dispelling cruise myths #1: “I'll be bored.” We are so excited to be at sea today on our way to the coast of Mexico. We just love sea days because there are simply so many new experiences to try, fun things to do, or ways that we can simply relax. Folks who have never cruised often tell us they are afraid they'd be bored on a ship. Well, we're pretty confident that being bored is almost impossible while at sea. We're hard pressed to remember a day that we could do everything we wanted to do. In fact, we thought about it for about 20 minutes, and put together a list of 50 things to do on a sea day BESIDES eat. (Link in bio @postcardjar) Which of these activities appeals to you most? On January 12, 2020, we met Julio and Michele aboa On January 12, 2020, we met Julio and Michele aboard the #celebrityedge when Ann volunteered to take their picture (she always does that). We hit it off immediately and have stayed in touch ever since with phone calls and even Zoom cocktail parties during the pandemic--us from our home in Nebraska and them from their home in New Jersey. Last month, we traveled to New Jersey and had a chance to see them in person for the first time since that cruise. Needless to say, we just kind of picked up where we left off. They went with us to the Huskers-Rutgers game (and put together a fantastic tailgate experience for us). We went out for dinner together and they made sure that we had a great time while we were there. Today, we board the brand-new @celebritycruises Beyond cruise ship for a 5-night cruise. We're so excited that our friends Julio and Michele will be on board, as well. We're really looking forward to this time with our friends and this opportunity to share experiences and make memories together. Have you ever made long-lasting friendships while traveling? One of the highlight's of this year's @visit_nebra One of the highlight's of this year's @visit_nebraska Tourism Conference in South Sioux City, Neb., was seeing The Many Moccasins Dance Troupe dance. With their permission, we took these photos of their dances and the group. We learned so much about Native American dancing and culture there, as a moderator educated the audience between each dance. Two of the youngest dancers had their hoop dance debut at the conference and received a standing ovation! Ann's brother, Robb, and his wife, Nancy, are vaca Ann's brother, Robb, and his wife, Nancy, are vacationing in Costa Rica this week. This morning, Robb sent this photo of a Strangler Fig tree that grows from the top down. He wrote this about it: "Strangler Figs root in the branches of another’s tree and shoot roots down to the ground, then engulf it and basically eats the tree. Eventually it will be a sort of lattice structure that can be hollow in the middle. Brilliant strategy for survival." Robb, who celebrated his birthday yesterday, is adventurous and inquisitive. He's always eager to learn something new and share his knowledge with others. We just love that about him. His empathy for people and curiosity about the earth inspire us to look around more, give people grace, and appreciate the variety of life found in nature. Happy Birthday, Robb. We love you.
