A guest post from our daughter, Meghan – Lessons I learned traveling with my mom

A guest post from our daughter, Meghan – Lessons I learned traveling with my mom

by Meghan | May 14, 2017 | About, Family, Feature Family, Real Life, Travel

By Meghan Shrewsbury I think I was born to travel. My first trip (aside from the one through the birth canal) happened when I was only five days old. I flew on a plane from South Carolina, where I was born, to Nebraska to meet my grandma. I haven’t really...

About Us

We’re Steve and Ann Teget. We spent more than two decades in corporate America and public education before Ann’s health and Steve’s aversion to middle school girl drama convinced us to try something new. Now we are making the most of midlife and telling authentic stories about extraordinary travel. And yes, we send ourselves postcards.

⁣
Don't get us wrong. We truly feel blessed to live in a beautiful home with a lovely view. But ten months into this global pandemic, we are feeling the itch to travel, again.⁣
⁣
We took our first cruise in 2013 to Alaska. Since then, we've cruised 13 times, and loved each and every voyage. When we disembarked from the Celebrity Edge in January of 2020, we planned to be back aboard a ship in August. Boy, were we wrong. ⁣
⁣
For now, we are staying home, waiting for a vaccine, and anxiously awaiting the day we can travel again. When that day comes, we will board a ship as soon as possible and we won't take a moment of our time on board for granted.
Because why not? 😆 We haven't laughed this much Because why not? 😆 We haven't laughed this much in weeks, so keep the Bernie photos and memes coming. ⁣

But seriously, we had a fantastic day of winter hiking at Platte River State Park and Mahoney State Park here in Nebraska. See more details in our stories.
Since we are not traveling much this month, we are Since we are not traveling much this month, we are doing our best to utilize our time and get our house in Nebraska more organized. Yesterday, we tackled the laundry room. Swipe through to see the "before" pic.

In about an hour, we (mostly Ann) were able to put things away, organize the cupboards, and give the whole room a good cleaning. And it feels so good to have it clean and organized!

When we bought our house 10 years ago, it didn't have a laundry room. Instead, the laundry hookups were in a small space between the door that attaches to our garage and our kitchen. We got tired of having to step over piles of dirty laundry to get into the house and eventually had this room constructed with space we took from our garage.

It was one of the best home improvement projects we've done and gives us a nicer entrance into our home and provides lots of extra storage space.

Have you taken on any home improvement projects this month? What's on your to-do list?

⁣
And since embarking on a new, healthier lifestyle over the past few years, we've found ourselves enjoying an occasional outdoor hike more and more. ⁣
⁣
This morning we chatted online with friend and fellow travel blogger, Kay Johnson, of @happytrailshiking. We met Kay at a @midwesttravelnetwork in @northdakotalegendary. As a much more experienced hiker, Kay was able to share knowledge of hiking with us and answered some of our questions about finding trails and the best equipment for beginning hiking.⁣
⁣
She'll be sharing our chat on her Happy Trails Hiking YouTube channel soon. In the meantime, we're eager to get all of the hiking advice we can get. Check out our stories to share your hiking tips and advice or just let us know in the comments below.

Tonight, we had jarred pasta sauce with two different types of pasta (we didn't have enough of one for both of us) and a big salad. What a difference a year makes! 😂 ⁣

Nonetheless, it was fun to see some of our photos from that magical night and remember the incredible food and wine, the impeccable service and the friendships that flourished that night on the @CelebrityEdge. ⁣

Do you have a favorite memory from cruising?
Are you challenged to get enough movement in your Are you challenged to get enough movement in your day during the cold winter months? We sure are. ⁣
⁣
Last winter, if the temps were below 50 degrees, we used that as an excuse to not go outside. That's not the case anymore. We have found that if we dress for the cold weather and just push ourselves a little bit to get outside, it's really not so bad. ⁣
⁣
This week we traveled to Platte River State Park near Louisville, Neb. and hit the trails. We are admittedly ameteur hikers and didn't bring the right footgear, but we still enjoyed a nice walk in the snow and got more movement into our day. And, we're already making plans to return, as the park was just beautiful and lots to see and do while socially distancing. ⁣
⁣
Honestly, we're actually starting to enjoy our winter walks. How about you? Do you exercise outdoors in the winter where you are?
