With the help of local stylist, Kalsey McCall, I was able to pull together the staples for a mix-and-match spring and summer wardrobe that I truly love. And you can do the same!

Shopping at Legends Outlets in Kansas City

Kalsey met me at Ann Taylor Factory which is centrally located in the beautiful Legends Outlets shopping center. We talked a bit about my shopping goals and I shared my anxiety around shopping in general. Over the past two years I’ve lost 130 pounds, I know very little about fashion and styling, and I haven’t done much in-store shopping during the pandemic. So shopping tends to be overwhelming.

I was in need of a complete spring and summer wardrobe and wanted items that would pack well as we venture back into lower-risk travel. Kalsey assured me that shopping at Legends Outlets was going to be easy. She also warned that I might even have fun! So, here we go!

So many clothing options at Legends Outlets

Legends Outlets has clothing options for a variety of sizes, styles, and budgets. We began our afternoon shopping spree at Ann Taylor Factory, a store in which I’d never shopped before. I was pleasantly surprised with an abundance of items I liked and found what has become one of my favorite summer tees. It has a bold print and the ruffled sleeve makes it seem a little dressier than my regular t-shirts.

With suggestions from Kalsey, I’ve learned several different ways to style this floral shirt with tailored shorts, jean capris, and white ankle pants.

Style tip: A slight ruffle on the sleeve of a t-shirt gives a nice feminine look.

Legends Outlets is anything but short on shorts

Next, we went to LOFT Outlet to find some casual shorts for summer. Kalsey helped me find the right length for my petite height. We chose black, as it coordinates with a lot of my existing wardrobe. She also suggested refined denim shorts for casual wear, paired with a solid or graphic tee.

We also looked at shoes at LOFT Outlet, and I learned what “slides” are (remember, I’m a newbie at this). I love the idea of these slip-on sandals with a pattern or buckles to spruce up my summer outfits.

Style tip: Slides are great to throw on with cropped pants or denim to balance out your bottom half. 

Shoe shopping at Legends Outlets

Shoe shopping, in general, was easy at Legends Outlets. Many of the clothing stores carry shoes and there are also several shoe stores to meet all your footwear needs. We started at Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse, which was having a BOGO sale (by one, get one half off). After finding a perfect pair of trendy white sneakers, Kalsey told me that “passing up a BOGO deal is just irresponsible.” Smile!

I also needed a comfortable sandal to wear with dresses this summer and we found the perfect pair! In addition to Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse, other places to get great shoes at Legends Outlets include, Adidas, Converse, Express Factory Outlet, Rack Room Shoes, and Vans Outlet.

Style tip: Nude colored shoes elongate your legs and make you look taller. 

Shopping for the classics at Legends Outlets

In addition to shoes, the other item that was on my must-get list was a denim jacket. I haven’t owned one since Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” topped the charts, and thought I’d like the versatility of a denim jacket and that I can wear it year round. Kalsey knew just the place to get a great jacket – Banana Republic Factory Store.

It only took us a few minutes to say thumbs up to the perfect denim jacket. It was light weight, stretchy, and available in several shades. I’m excited to wear this jacket on cool summer nights with shorts or a casual dress. I also found several stylish dresses and a hot pink blouse on clearance at Banana Republic. Score!

Before leaving Banana Republic, we spotted the cutest straw hat for summer and snagged that, as well. Okay, maybe shopping for an entirely new summer wardrobe isn’t so difficult after all.

Style tip: Size down in a denim jacket, as you never want to button it anyway. Also, fold the sleeves and then push them up to create a slimmer look. 

Putting together an entire look in one shopping center

One thing I loved about Legends Outlets was that I could put together an entire look (or three) in one shopping center. With Kalsey’s help, I learned how to style this striped t-shirt dress from Banana Republic Factory Store three different ways. And with a wide variety of shops at Legends Outlets, we were able to find plenty of accessories at stores all within walking distance.

Style tip: T-shirt dresses can be worn with a sandal, slide, or sneaker.

Legends Outlets has helpful staff

If you’re an inexperienced shopper like me, it is often helpful to have someone to guide you. I found just the help I needed at Legends Outlets. In addition to my personal stylist, each store had experienced staff who could point me in the right direction. They offered suggestions based on my preferences and needs. They were honest and let me know that pale yellow was not my color.

These ladies from Chico’s Outlet were especially helpful and made shopping fun! They helped me find several new tops to complete my summer wardrobe while paying special attention to colors that mixed and matched well with previous purchases. I found some great sale and clearance items there, as well!

Style tip: Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Let the staff know what you’re looking for and ask for their recommendations. 

Accessories abound at Legends Outlets in Kansas City

After purchasing two pair of shoes and several bags of spring and summer clothes, we went on a quest to find accessories to give my new outfits a completed look.

Our first stop was at Francesca’s Outlet – a boutique with a variety of eclectic accessories and jewelry. Kalsey showed me how adding just a pop of color can really pull together a finished look. The blue and white earrings below match several of my new tops.  A bright pink lipstick also added a great contrast. When you go to Legends Outlets, be sure to check out the new Sephora for all of your favorite cosmetics.

Don’t you just love how these hot pink earrings look with this black and white outfit pictured below? The waviness of the earrings also matches the ruffle on the shirt sleeve. Hint, hint: I’m learning something about styling and gaining more confidence!

In addition to Franceca’s Outlet, you can also find beautiful jewelry and accessories at other shops at Legends Outlets. In fact, there are several high-end designer outlet stores, including: Kate Spade, Michael Kors Outlet, Tory Burch, and Coach.

Style tip: Earrings are a great way to add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit. 

Legends Outlets helped complete my summer wardrobe

Our last stop of the day was at Soma, where I found shapewear for underneath a hot pink dress I bought for a few upcoming weddings. It was an investment piece and gave me a smooth look that I can’t wait to show off this summer. At last, my spring/summer wardrobe was complete and I found everything I needed in one place. Best of all, I honestly had a lot of fun!
